Wilkes family genealogy - Steve - 09-11-2017 08:34 PM

For those of you who are interested in knowing how the Booth family is related to the family of the radical politician, John Wilkes. I found a source that has the answer, an obscure 1984 Oxford University Press book entitled The Victoria History of the County of Stafford Volume XX by the University of London's Institute of Historical Research (ed. M. W. Greenslade). On page 20 there's a genealogy of Elizabeth Booth nee' Wilkes and an explanation of how she's related to John Wilkes. I've used it to help make a tree below to show how they're related.

Elizabeth Booth nee' Wilkes and John Wilkes were 3rd cousins. Elizabeth wasn't born in London but in Autherley in the county of Staffordshire. She left her family in Staffordshire sometime after her father's death to go to London where she married John Booth the silversmith. In 1777, John and Elizabeth's son Richard tried to enlist in the Continental Army with his cousin, John Brevitt. Brevitt was the son of Elizabeth's younger sister, Ann (b. 1726).

You can read more about what happened to Brevitt and Booth in this BoothieBarn post:
