I love this sketch - particularly "Lucinda Holloway" screaming in the back yard! Plus Booth and Herold are seemingly smiling and look happy, if not pleasant - why I don't know.....

I did not know Booth met Spangler at that school in York. I checked Art Loux's book, and he writes that "Booth may have attended Charles Henry Bland's school in York, Pennsylvania, for about three weeks in 1853." So apparently Art was not 100% certain of this.

At least they show Booth having an 11 day old beard, stache gone.

This fine rendering of the shooting of Booth imparts aspects of the incident I had been unaware of and opens vistas for new research.

For example, I never realized Boston Corbett was an admiral and shot Booth with a flintlock pistol. I hadn't known that many in the Union cavalry wore derbies, and I hadn't known Booth was preparing to shave with a straight-razor just before Corbett lit him up.

Awesome! All kidding aside, it is a wonderful illustration with great charm and even innocence, even it was of a gruesome subject.
