John Surratt's CDV - Susan Higginbotham - 06-09-2015 10:00 PM A CDV of John Surratt in his "Canada jacket" sold tonight on eBay for $615. I was following the auction in hopes that all of the bidders might magically turn their attention elsewhere, but the price climbed way too high for little me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111685988497?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT RE: John Surratt's CDV - BettyO - 06-10-2015 04:50 AM Very nice image! I remember back in the day (about 40-35 years ago) when you could take your pick of JWB CDV's (and ANY of the Conspirators) from $8.00. JWB usually went from about $8.00 to $25.00 and some of the rarer conspirator images (Lew Powell for example) went for about $250.00 to $300.00.... those days are LONG gone! RE: John Surratt's CDV - HerbS - 06-10-2015 06:43 AM Prices for any Civil War CDV's are Long Gone! RE: John Surratt's CDV - LincolnMan - 06-10-2015 05:51 PM I wonder when John Surratt posed for the photograph? RE: John Surratt's CDV - L Verge - 06-10-2015 07:05 PM He began posing and selling his photos shortly after his trial, I believe, in order to make some money. I suspect the money was used to fund his soon-to-be trip to South America -- where he was when the body of his mother was re-interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in 1869. RE: John Surratt's CDV - LincolnMan - 06-11-2015 11:12 AM Thanks Laurie. |
