Mary Todd Lincoln House - Special Evening Tour - RJNorton - 04-07-2015 10:35 AM

Special evening tour planned for 150th anniversary of Lincoln's assassination

The Mary Todd Lincoln House will commemorate the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination with a special evening tour titled Death, Mourning, and Mrs. Lincoln. The tour will be offered at 5 and 6 p.m. April 14, the date Lincoln was shot, and April 15, the date of his death.

In this special tour, visitors will explore how the first lady's experiences reflected the ways in which 19th-century Americans coped with death. This program will feature artifacts and other historical sources that illustrate evolving funerary and mourning customs, and unorthodox practices such as spiritualism.

Reservations are required. Admission is $15, $13 a person with a group of four or more, and $10 for members and their guests. The tour is not recommended for children. The Mary Todd Lincoln House is at 578 West Main Street. Free parking is located directly behind the house. Call Gwen at (859) 233-9999 for reservations or go to Mtlhouse.org for more information.
