Assassination Articles - BettyO - 03-02-2015 08:14 AM

Last night I discovered a trilogy of articles on the assassination and conspiracy in the February, March and April 1929 American Legion Magazine by journalist Marquis James. I had never seen these articles before. Although interesting, the articles contain more than a few glaring errors such as quoting Doster verbatim regarding Powell, and claiming that Herold was "19 years old." The author subsequently states that Powell was the "youngest" conspirator, so does that make him "18 years old" or younger according to James? The first article in the trilogy, "Murder Most Foul" begins on a fictitious note to "grab the reader." The subsequent article, entitled "Pursuit" carries an illustration by Rico Tomaso (remember this was still the "Golden Age" of magazine pulp illustration) and depicts a somewhat older and worn looking JWB in the burning barn where he appears to be 36 years old rather than 26 years old. "Handsomest man in America", he is not! Still all in all an interesting illustration which I have never seen before. The articles are fun to read.
