A Star Among Us - STS Lincolnite - 02-01-2015 05:12 PM

It seems we have a star among us! As if we didn't already know. Smile I came across this video just a few minutes ago...

Very nice Laurie.

You did a fantastic job, Laurie! Grand - thanks for sharing.....

Wow! I had forgotten all about that video. It was done about 3-4 years ago - before I realized that, at my age, one should put on their glasses to hide the saggy, baggy eyes from the harsh reality of the camera!

Laurie, you look great. I second the others, very well done, I want more...

Believe it or not, that was done in one take. There were minimal edits in the final portion due to time restrictions, but the Smithsonian staff was amazed that I could talk that long without taking a breath! My friends should have warned them ahead of time...

I hope you are just using your usual self-deprecating humor? You look fantastic!

Thank you, kind lady; but I really am not liking turning old. The alternative scares the heck out of me, however, so I try and placate myself by saying that as long as I can still use my brain and my mouth, I'll be happy! However, some people are now telling me to shut my mouth!

Done like a pro. I think you must have been a wonderful teacher and I wish I had had more teachers like you.

Thank you, Kate. I humbly say that I think I was a good teacher also! I truly believe that good teachers are born, not trained, and I was blessed with the instinct to be a good teacher.

I am now watching my own daughter be a marvelous teacher. She is a mentoring teacher, working with teachers who are struggling in the classroom. You can imagine that that does not sit well with some teachers who should never have been teachers; but they often fail to realize that, without help from mentors, they are likely to lose their jobs.

I am absolutely amazed at how good my daughter is! I was the one who wanted her to choose another profession. She started out as a kindergarten-2 teacher - something that I could never have been. Middle school or above is my cup of tea.

I'm very proud of her. My family has been held together by strong females. My grandmother had a sixth-grade education (and died worth a lot of money). My mother finished high school, but was not allowed to go on to college because college people get jobs and her father wanted no working women in his family. She died a millionaire.

I was the first to go to college, but quit with only three courses left to get my Master's because I fell for that old "you'll never have to work again" routine and got married. My daughter has completed her Master's years ago and keeps talking about getting a doctorate. My only grandchild is now scared spitless because he realizes the pressure of the doctorate degree is now on him!

Good teachers and good parents are the two best hopes for this world.

Laurie, y'all are "Powerfrauen" (the German term is 100% positive, about the translations I know I'm not sure)!

Kate, you are correct. Good parents and teachers are very hard to find. They are the best hope for this hard world of ours. Laurie, you did a fantastic job on that short film. I believe the reason you were able to do it without taking a breath is because of your expertise on the subject. You did not have to read a script because all the information was just floating around in that great mind of yours waiting to come out. Great job....
