Laurie sent these two images with the following information:

"Some of you may know that the U.S. Army has begun restoring the third-floor of the only remaining portion of the old Penitentiary on the grounds of what is now Ft. Lesley J. McNair. The area served as the courtroom for the military trial of the conspirators.

The company that is reproducing the windows just sent the following period sketches that they are using to accurately produce them. The company also visited other sites with similar window guards of the 1860s.

Hopefully, the restored courtroom will be open to the public on a very limited basis by the spring of 2013."

Thank you, Laurie!

I hate to break it to you but that's not what they look like right now...

Apparently they are busy putting the "Grills" i.e. bars on the windows if I read this correctly. The door to the cell block is also going to be steel with a grilled (barred) window at the top....

I'm also working with the crew on "dressing" the set -- that will be a LOT of fun!

Betty is correct, the work of returning them to their original state has not been done yet. The e-mail that I received from the factory in Alexandria, Virginia, was only to alert us that they were using period sketches and visits to similar sites that still have grilled windows in order to replicate the windows.

I have also heard from an inside source that the new windows may not have as many panes of glass as the originals.
