LIncoln in Los Angeles - Lincoln Wonk - 12-21-2013 03:45 PM Does anyone know of any good LIncoln displays, exhibits or libraries in Los Angeles, besides the Beverly Hills library exhibits? I am planning to find the former homes of some of the Ford's actors if possible, but wondered if there's anything I should not miss. RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - RJNorton - 12-21-2013 03:58 PM Kathy, there is the Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands. (Please notice it has limited hours.) RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - L Verge - 12-21-2013 06:56 PM Ten years ago, before her collection went to Springfield, I would have asked Louise Taper to meet with you. RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - Rsmyth - 12-22-2013 08:23 AM That sounds very interesting! Who is on your list? RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - Jim Garrett - 12-22-2013 09:08 AM Joseph Hazelton, the program boy at Ford's went west and became an actor and was very prolific in numerous silent films. I believe he is buried in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Section 2W number 441. His grave is unmarked. A picture would be nice. RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - LincolnMan - 12-22-2013 10:24 AM I've been to the Lincoln site in Redlands. Coincidently, my father is buried in Redlands. Anyway, if there are pictures taken there by anyone, please post a couple- would love to see them. RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - LincolnMan - 05-07-2014 04:13 PM Lincoln Wonk: can you share an update with us on your efforts? RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - LincolnToddFan - 05-07-2014 10:32 PM Hollywood Forever Cemetery is about 5-10 minutes from where I live. I should go check it out someday! RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - LincolnMan - 05-08-2014 04:20 AM That would be great! RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - Rsmyth - 05-08-2014 06:41 AM Great cemetery to visit. I was there in the late 70's for a few hours but could have spent a few days. After taking pictures of most of the big Hollywood stars i ran out of film (pre-digital) at the grave of Alfalfa. Hattie McDaniel who starred in Gone With the Wind and died in 1951 was not allowed burial in the park but Bugsy Siegel was. The times (for the most part) are a changing. RE: LIncoln in Los Angeles - LincolnMan - 05-08-2014 05:27 PM Reading the story of the Lincoln Memorial in Redlands on the website is quite inspiring. The cemetery itself is lovely but that particular part of Hollywood has kind of gone to seed. There was a lot of buzz around Hollywood Forever Cemetery a few weeks ago when Mick Jagger's girlfriend was interred there after she committed suicide in NYC. It broke my heart to learn that the great Hattie McDaniel was denied burial because of the color of her skin, but gangster/criminal Bugsy Siegel was welcomed. What a world. |
