Office 2013 issues - Rob Wick - 11-05-2013 03:08 PM

This is a sidelight to the issues we were talking about regarding Windows 7 or 8. I recently bought Office 2013 Home and Student Pack and installed it on my laptop and desktop. I bought two separate programs, so both have different licenses. I've noticed that on the desktop when I'm in Microsoft Word and try to spell check something, it crashes. I can't even get Excel to open without crashing. Strangely, PowerPoint seems to work OK.

What's even stranger is that on the laptop, all programs work just fine. I've been on every Microsoft Word forum that I've been able to find, tried just about everything they've suggested, and it still won't work. The only way I can get either program to do what they're supposed to do is to open them in safe mode.

Help!!

Best
Rob

Others are having exactly the same problem. Did you see this? Maybe it will provide some answers.

I actually did see that thread, but I didn't realize it had a second page. I found one other thing to try, which seems to have worked. Thanks for drawing my attention to it.

My wife says I live in the past, and she may be right. I am still using Word 1997.

Office 2003 was one of the programs I lost when my computer crashed, so I decided to go ahead and upgrade, plus I needed a word processor on my laptop (and I despise Microsoft Works), so I went ahead and made the investment. From what I've read, there are a number of people having problems with Office 2013. Between Windows 8 and that, seems like Microsoft is burning through some goodwill. I don't know, but maybe they don't mind.

I agree, Rob. I am back using Windows 7 as I type this, but one of the many unusual experiences I had with Windows 8 involved my disk that contains Word '97. When I was using Windows 8 the disk was able to install Word '97 fine. However, when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 the disk would no longer work. I was not able to install Word '97 using Windows 8.1. So it looks to me that Microsoft is now forcing people who have older Word versions to upgrade. But the real effect is simply to drive folks back to Windows 7.

The day that Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck they will start making vacuum cleaners.

That's the best quote I've heard in a long time!
