The well-traveled Mr. Booth - Sally - 10-04-2013 09:22 PM I believe the attached article I found on GeneologyBank.com will definitively prove that JWB was not shot dead in Garrett's barn in April of 1865, but instead, survived to travel the world. This article appeared in The Daily Albany Argus on September 12, 1873. Seems completely credible to me. (P.S. Hope you can open it . . . I'm not too good at this high-tech stuff.) RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - RJNorton - 10-05-2013 04:30 AM He assassinated the President but didn't leave Washington for 30 days. I wonder where he stayed... RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - L Verge - 10-05-2013 09:32 AM He was, no doubt, hidden in the secret room at the Surratt boardinghouse that few knew how to find by pushing a certain book on the shelves in the parlor. This lends credence to the thought that Booth did stop at the boardinghouse after the assassination -- only it wasn't to pick up a hat, but to be hustled into that secret room. It was a story that Mrs. Surratt, Anna, Weichmann, and John Surratt all carried to their graves... For years, I have told visitors to Surratt House that Booth is still alive and living with JFK, Elvis, and Hitler on a Pacific island with Amelia Earhart as their housekeeper. This article backs up my tongue-in-cheek claims! I'm at work this morning, and as you can tell, a tad snippy. My apologies. RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - KateH. - 10-05-2013 12:14 PM Maybe he found the Lost Colony of Roanoke in his travels RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - RJNorton - 10-05-2013 12:21 PM I was thinking he simply returned to his room at the National Hotel, but I defer to Kate and Laurie - your ideas are better. RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - L Verge - 10-05-2013 01:43 PM And will soon be turned into a Made for TV movie! RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - KateH. - 10-05-2013 05:39 PM And staring Michael Jackson as Booth. RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - LincolnMan - 10-06-2013 09:26 AM It seems the public just can't let people die- whether the persons in question were famous for good or for evil. Stories have abounded that deceased persons are alive (sounds contradictory): John Wilkes Booth, Hitler, Elvis, Tupac Shakoor, etc. RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - L Verge - 10-06-2013 11:48 AM I can't remember the source, but I read somewhere recently that Americans are the most conspiracy-believing people on Earth. RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - LincolnMan - 10-06-2013 08:03 PM That sounds right to me! RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - BettyO - 10-07-2013 05:55 AM Agreed! These theories are ridiculous...... Now for some good Ghost stories involving Booth - go on over to Dave's BoothieBarn! RE: The well-traveled Mr. Booth - Jim Garrett - 10-07-2013 06:05 AM A quick internet search for Carroll Jackson Donelson, Carroll J. Donelson and Carroll Donelson only found the reference in Geneologybank.com. There is only the one article found. Searching muster rolls for the 8th Texas Cav, also known as Terry's Rangers fails to find an officer named Donelson. I think we have a Mississippi River story teller here who found a gullible audience. I hope this young man didn't play a few games of cards with Capt. Donelson. His ego was too big for him to hiding in silence for the rest of his life like a common criminal. |
