On February 22,1864-George Rexford of Gaines Township,Pa.enlisted in the 45th Pa.Regiment.He had his leg blown apart at the battle of Cold Harbor.Unfortunately he was unable to wear an artificial limb.But,he managed to handle crutches just fine!He handled them well enough to be at Ford's Theater and witness The Lincoln Assassination.George was the last surviving Civil War Veteran in Pa.He died at the fine age of 91 in 1935.

Is there a written record somewhere of his account of the assassination?

Bill,I asked that when I was told the story by one of his ancestors.He said Maybe! I figure there might be an account in the newspaper.But,I never pursued it!
