RE: Who is this person? - Dave Taylor - 02-12-2016 10:36 AM Judge Charles P. Daly. He and George Ashmun were supposed to have met with President Lincoln on April 15th. Daly is Mr. Ashmun's "friend" that is mentioned in Lincoln's last piece of writing. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-12-2016 01:57 PM Excellent, Dave! That is correct. I cannot think of an appropriate prize for this, so I shall just wish you and Kate a happy Valentine's Day. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-21-2016 01:43 PM Who is (was) this gentleman? [attachment=2159] RE: Who is this person? - Wild Bill - 02-21-2016 02:00 PM US Grant, Mexican War RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-21-2016 02:54 PM Kudos, Bill, that is correct and seems to require a Mexican prize - what about a bottle of Mezcal (worm included)? RE: Who is this person? - Wild Bill - 02-21-2016 02:57 PM I AM the worm, honey RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-22-2016 05:11 AM Although the vast majority of Lincoln books do not mention this gentleman, he has a definite connection to Abraham Lincoln. Who is he? RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-22-2016 05:31 AM Eli K. Price of Philadelphia. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-22-2016 07:04 AM Amazing, Eva! It is Eli Kirk Price. I thought for sure I would have to give clues on this one. A mystery on the day Lincoln was assassinated involves a check for $500 written by Price to Lincoln (check dated April 13, 1865). Lincoln endorsed the check on April 14, 1865. The check is now part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The reason Price wrote the check to Abraham Lincoln is unknown. The great-grandson of Price, when asked about the $500 check, wrote, "So far as I know there are no papers of any kind available that would throw any light on that particular check." http://cdm16089.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p16089coll38/id/262/rec/18 Eva, you win best wishes that someone will someday write you a nice check for unknown reasons (or better yet you win the lottery). RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-22-2016 08:00 AM Thank you, Roger. His likeness is not easy to forget and W. E. Reck's book one of my favorites... RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-24-2016 05:34 AM Who is/was this gentleman? [attachment=2164] RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-24-2016 05:54 AM Is it Karl Benz? RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-24-2016 06:47 AM An outstanding guess, Roger, but, sorry not correct. Hint #1: His name has frequently been mentioned on this forum. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-24-2016 07:20 AM I know I have seen this picture sometime, but right now I cannot think of who it is. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-24-2016 11:38 AM Hint #2: On the forum his name would be mentioned in the WH Years or Assassination threads. |
