All great guesses but Susan's is correct. Laurie, good observation on the colonial era dress. Susan you win a pair of hot lavender shoes made by Martha's Parisian shoemaker.

Anthropologists used a 1796 portrait to generate an updated image of how Martha Washington might’ve looked in her 20s.

Here's the 1796 portrait.

Thank you! I shall look so nice walking the dogs in my shoes.

I wonder what Martha's spouse looked like at young age.

There is an interesting exhibit at Mount Vernon focusing on how they figured it out.

Thanks, Anita. Wish I had made it to Mount Vernon. The Lincolns did:

I think this will be a challenge. Who is this man?

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-11-2016 05:20 PM

Well, it's obviously not Gideon Wells (although wearing the same bearddo). My next guesses would be a bearded John Cleese, or Leonardo da Vinci...

An older Cipriano Ferrandini?

Good try, Eva! But it's not him.

Hint #1: Although he has a connection to Lincoln, I do not believe this man has ever been mentioned by name on the forum.

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-12-2016 05:36 AM

Hint #2: The word "friend" is involved in figuring out who this person is.

RE: Who is this person? - Gene C - 02-12-2016 07:19 AM

John Hanks - ?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-12-2016 07:30 AM

Good try, Gene! But it's not him.

RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 02-12-2016 07:49 AM

HA - is it that Lemen that claimed having been a friend of Lincoln although it's as unlikely as could be?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-12-2016 07:54 AM

Good thinking, Eva, but it's not Lemen.

Hint #3: The "friend" was not Lincoln's. But still there was a connection between the two.

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 02-12-2016 09:59 AM

Hint #4: I believe it is unknown exactly why this man wanted to see Lincoln.
