RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 03-28-2015 02:12 PM Isaac Diller? RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-28-2015 03:19 PM A brilliant guess, Roger, and quite hot - although I am sorry to say it's not Isaac Diller either. Hint #4: Thinking Springfield is correct. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 03-28-2015 03:42 PM Then it has to be John Roll. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-28-2015 03:56 PM Excellent - good job, Roger. The gentleman is John Linden Roll. The photo is in M. Algeo's "Abe and Fido", which I highly recommend to all "Abe" (and Fido) fans!!! Speaking of Diller, at Diller's, Fido's master got his furry friend vermifuge at .25/bottle. Please allow me to link to your wonderful site on Fido which contains a photo of the young J.L.Roll: http://rogerjnorton.com/Lincoln17.html Roger, you win Fido's beloved horsehair sofa. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 03-29-2015 04:32 AM Eva, unless I have my sofas confused, this one is now at Hildene, so the folks there will ship it to me? I think Joe Beckert once posted that he touched this sofa when the tour guide was not looking! Thank you, Eva - I will truly treasure this and will do all possible to stop our kitty, Lightning, from scratching on it. Hopefully Lightning knows a historic treasure when he sees one. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 03-29-2015 08:47 AM Please, let us know how he reacts to sensing "dog fragrance" and finding some of Fido's hair. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 04-03-2015 03:55 AM Who is this person? RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 04-03-2015 05:14 AM Looks somehow familiar (e.g. my eyes see a certain resemblance to John Hay, also to David Herold), but the clothing doesn't seem to match to anyone, i. e. the photo (collar) looks like taken long after the assassination? RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 04-03-2015 05:58 AM Those are excellent guesses, Eva, but it is neither of those folks. Hint #1: The photo was taken prior to the assassination. RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 04-03-2015 01:19 PM Hint #2: The correct answer is not a new name on this forum. He has been mentioned before. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 04-03-2015 07:34 PM Although I am sure this will be wrong: a young Stephen Douglas? Another try - a friend of the Lincoln boys? Henry Remann? RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 04-04-2015 03:59 AM Outstanding guesses, Eva, but it is neither of those folks. Hint #3: Long ago this man was also the answer to a trivia question, but the picture used was when he was a much older man. RE: Who is this person? - Eva Elisabeth - 04-04-2015 04:41 AM Since time flies and March 28 seems lightyears ago (to me) - John Linden Roll? RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 04-04-2015 07:52 AM Eva, that is such a logical guess. Kudos. However, it is not Roll or a member of the Roll family. RE: Who is this person? - Gene C - 04-04-2015 09:06 AM I've seen that photo before, but I can't remember where or who it is with any certainty. Is it Robert Lincoln? |
