RE: Killing Lincoln - wsanto - 02-01-2013 02:59 PM Quote:It would be ridiculous to cast someone twice the age of the person being depicted. And vice versa. It happens all the time in Hollywood. Sally Field was 65 when she portrayed a 46-yo Mary Lincoln. It works in "Lincoln" because the audience doesn't think of Mary as being 46. They think of her as the first lady or Abe's wife. Our experience is that first ladies are typically in their late 50s and 60s or even older. Now Sally Field looks great for her age but she doesn't look 46 yeas-old. The audience doesn't care because they either assume Mary was in her fifties or Sally (looking mid-fifties) is a believable first lady. For me it would be the same for Booth. Most people don't see him as a 27-yo. They see him as an assassin. They would be more than willing to have an older actor portray Booth if,after make-up and lighting, he looked like he was in his mid-30s. Now I agree with Betty and the rest--Jesse Johnson appears to have nailed the role and he certainly looks the part and he has the script and the direction and the production to help him shine in the role. It's now near impossible to imagine Depp in this movie after seeing Johnson. RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-01-2013 03:05 PM Amen! Jesse Johnson IS Booth! And Josh Murray makes a stunning Powell as well - excellence all round! RE: Killing Lincoln - Dave Taylor - 02-01-2013 07:28 PM Well I've changed the header image on BoothieBarn to advertise for Killing Lincoln. I'm really looking forward to when it airs! RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-01-2013 09:49 PM The header looks wonderful, Dave! RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-02-2013 07:37 AM Time sure marches on quickly! Seems like only yesterday was Christmas! Only two weeks until the Premiers in DC and Richmond and only about a month until Conference time! This year's Conference promises to be great with a gifted group of speakers including Dr Blaine Houmes, Dave Taylor, John Fazio, etc..... Erik Jendresen will be our speaker at the Saturday night banquet to tell us about the making of Killing Lincoln..... Cut off for reservations is soon so please hurry if you want to attend! Please contact the Surratt House to learn full particulars. RE: Killing Lincoln - L Verge - 02-02-2013 10:42 AM John Fazio - don't go into a panic; you are not on the list of speakers this year! However, I know that you will be posing questions and comments from the floor. There is no cut-off for reservations. We will accept late-comers at the door on Saturday morning or at the welcoming reception on Friday night. However, anyone who registers after March 1 must add an extra $20 to the fee. Last minute registrations cost us extra work, so you'll pay extra for that... We cannot guarantee rooms at the reduced rate at Colony South Hotel, however, after February 15 - so please reserve your room now. March 1 starts tourist season in the D.C. area, and the hotel needs their rooms guaranteed before they start filling tourists' needs. Hope you understand. RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-02-2013 04:22 PM Yes, Maddie - That video is here: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/killing-lincoln/videos/lincolns-final-speech/ RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-06-2013 02:20 PM National Geo has updated their site again - Check out this stunning multimedia rendition of the Conspiracy! http://killinglincolnconspiracy.com/ NOT to be missed! Being closely associated with the Arsenal penitentiary, I was a little disappointed that they erroneously put an icon of the Old Capitol Prison in its place. It's a common mistake that seems to keep getting repeated. Hopefully my and Barry's phantom book will help put an end to that. Right...... RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-06-2013 05:40 PM Absolutely stunning - But Oops! I found one other error --- Mary Surratt didn't die right away when hanged but "took over 5 minutes to die" -- That was Powell - not Mary! RE: Killing Lincoln - Gene C - 02-06-2013 05:54 PM Do you think that was a mistake, or that they did that on purpose, like the scene of Prsident Lincoln slapping Robert. RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-06-2013 06:23 PM Gene, I think it was a slip - a mistake.... Nowhere have I read that Mary took a long time to die. It has been stated otherwise, as a matter of fact; that she was the first to die and died quickly. Atzerodt died next; then Herold and lastly Powell, who took the longest to die as he strangled. It was even stated that those on the "outside" (Surratt, Atzerodt) died quicker than those on the "inside" (Powell, Herold).... RE: Killing Lincoln - L Verge - 02-06-2013 07:13 PM Very well done. I did catch some other glitches - like a wrong modern building for the Wok 'n Roll restaurant (old boardinghouse) and also the wrong building for the modern Petersen House. They also did not catch the corrected update on the real Clara Harris photo. There was at least one other thing, but I can't remember it right now. These are glitches in this trailer, but will not be in the real thing, I'm sure. However, I am definitely in love with Jesse Johnson as Booth and will never want anyone else to play the part. His eyes and underlying evil are just perfect, IMO. If this is any indication as to what the entire program will be, I can only say HALLELUJAH! Someone has finally made an attempt to get things right. RE: Killing Lincoln - BettyO - 02-06-2013 08:00 PM Agreed, Laurie! AND you'd love Jesse in person, too! He's a real charmer! |
