RE: Happy Halloween - Dave Taylor - 10-31-2013 12:01 PM Mike, Are you and your family at Sonny Acres in West Chicago, IL? I was born and raised in Winfield which is just down the street. I went to Sonny Acres lots of times as a kid. RE: Happy Halloween - brtmchl - 10-31-2013 12:28 PM Small world Dave. Yes, that is the same Sonny Acres. We go there every year with her side of the family. The kids love all the rides, especially the haunted hay ride. Then we get our pumpkins as we leave, ( I sneak off to buy a bunch of jams and apple cider donuts ) then we spend the night snacking and carving pumpkins. My wife grew up just down the street in Bartlett. We also go to Goebert's in Hoffman Estates ( the one with the giant pumpkin head atop the barn ) with my side of the family. They are both really nice and the kids have a blast: although we prefer Sonny Acres smaller charm. The donuts at Goebert's are better though. Someday...... Seriously, congratulations! I sure hope this helps the city continue to heal after such a difficult year. (I am sure you know that it was the Cubs the Red Sox beat at Fenway in 1918.) RE: Happy Halloween - brtmchl - 11-01-2013 07:52 AM Betty, I should have known you are too much of a Lady to kiss and tell. My apologies. I guess I was just hoping you may have had too pumpkin ales last night. Apparently, it wasn't clear, what he shouted, correct? Karin, author Tim Good took a good look at this question and concluded that the evidence is overwhelming that Booth shouted, "Sic Semper Tyrannis." Good points to 10 reliable eyewitnesses who said this. However, as with almost everything assassination-related, there are alternate versions. Other Booth statements that people thought they heard include, "Revenge for the South, " "The South is avenged," and "I have done it!" A few folks felt what Booth shouted was incoherent, and one said Booth said nothing on stage. There are also differing versions of what Booth may (or may not) have shouted while still in the box. |
