Just like Eva, I tend to become uncomfortable in large crowds but those photos are simply extraordinary. The ones with all the candles sends chills up my spine. Like Gene I did not expect such a massive event.
"Beautiful Dreamer" is a song that makes me cry.
Thanks everyone from bottom of my heart for sharing your beautiful and moving photos with those of us who could not attend Ford 150 last night!

Angela, thank you for your wonderful description! The size of the crowd is amazing. Doesn't your body think it's actually 5 hours ahead (or is German time 6 hours ahead)?

Thanks everyone for including us in on all the action. Wish I could have been there although I did get to watch the live streaming video from Ford's last night. At the end, the lights were brought up in the Presidential box and then faded to black. Thanks again everyone!

Unfortunately I can't watch all the videos - so thank you once again for all the photos and descriptions. Angela, I couldn't sleep either! Roger, meanwhile Germany is 6 hours ahead (we switched to summertime the last Sunday in March). I don't know if the same goes for Angela, but going west I find easier to put up with, it's easier to stay up longer in the evening and sleep out the next morning (when it would be much later in Germany), than having to go to bed and rising 6 hours earlier to what one got used to.

I am sooooo happy to see the large turnout for this. Whether they came out of curiosity or not, it's important that so many were exposed to this important history.

I don't think we should let the momentum die. Let's follow the Chinese educational principle of "each one teach one" and try to enroll more people as amateur historians.
It has been gangbusters at Surratt House today with large groups going on tour with us every half hour. Some were a little bleary-eyed from lack of sleep as they bragged about participating in the all-night vigil at Ford's.

Here is an example of a professional historian that we need to teach: A friend called to tell me that she attended a lecture this week on the Lincoln assassination, given by a professor of history from Marshall University. Being a former president of the Surratt Society, this friend nearly fell off her chair when she heard this gentleman say that John Surratt, Jr. was hanged along with his mother because he came back to try and save her.
I also heard a participant in today's events at Ford's being interviewed on the morning news. The statement was made that Oswell Swann took the fugitives into his home, fed them, but also sent word to Union troops that he had people they might be looking for. What a way for me to start the day!
