As I think about it-would it have bode well for the Confederacy (assuming it was involved) to have kidnapped a sitting President? Would it have looked on favorably by the European nations, for instance? If the Confederacy had survived and achieved the nation-status they were seeking-would the kidnapping incident (if it had been carried out successfully) have been one of it's "finer moments" or something untoward?
