No googling please.

In a letter to President Lincoln who wrote:

"It is desirable that the President of the United States and Congress give us their views in reference to this matter at as early a date as possible."

Absolutely no idea. For some reason, though, the name of Thaddeus Stevens popped into my head. So that will be my guess.

Very sensible guess, Rob. But incorrect.

Horace Greeley?

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 05-12-2023 02:37 PM

Bill, that is also a logical guess. But it's incorrect.

The other name that comes to mind is Benjamin Butler.

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 05-12-2023 03:36 PM

Nope, Bill. It's not Butler.

Hint#1: The correct answer is male.

Frederick Douglass?

RE: Who is this person? - Anita - 05-12-2023 06:52 PM

Jefferson Davis or Alexander Stephens?

RE: Who is this person? - AussieMick - 05-12-2023 07:54 PM

Lord Palmerston?

All good guesses, but none correct.

At my worst in the hospital I was on 44l of oxygen. My mind was wandering, and for some unknown reason, I thought of this letter. I decided I would put in a trivia question about it if I survived my illness. It's intended to make forum members try to think of why the writer was hoping for a quick reply from the President. Try to think outside the box.

I'll keep on with the British ... Lord John Russell

RE: Who is this person? - RJNorton - 05-13-2023 07:21 AM

Nope, it's not Lord John Russell.

Roger,

Along Mike's line, is the person an American,?

Rob, he is not an American. He has infrequently been mentioned on this forum.
