Does anyone know when Lee's "lost order" that gave McClellan the edge at Antietam become public knowledge? Trying to determine if it was during the 1864 presidential campaign. - Thanks

The New York Herald reported on the lost orders on September 15, 1862, a couple of days before the Battle of Antietam.

(last column, 2nd story under reports from Washington)
The report is dated September 14th, so it's possible that it could have been in another newspaper a day earlier.
Thanks,
No wonder Sherman hated the media.
